PROPHETS - DEBORAH - DAY FOUR

Hello and welcome to our weekly devos following our Prophets series! These devo’s are Monday through Friday and pair with this past week’s message. Be sure to journal your thoughts, vocalize your prayers, and find God in all moments of your life this week.

THEME SCRIPTURE:

Judges 4:1-7 (NIV)

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, now that Ehud was dead. 2 So the Lord sold them into the hands of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. Sisera, the commander of his army, was based in Harosheth Haggoyim. 3 Because he had nine hundred chariots fitted with iron and had cruelly oppressed the Israelites for twenty years, they cried to the Lord for help.

4 Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. 5 She held court under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided. 6 She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali and Zebulun and lead them up to Mount Tabor. 7 I will lead Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his troops to the Kishon River and give him into your hands.’”

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

Isaiah 45:2

I will go before you

    and will level the mountains;

I will break down gates of bronze

    and cut through bars of iron.

REFLECTION:

Have you ever encountered a moment in your life where you were trying to get somewhere, but you couldn't see it very well? It is hard to get around in the dark or when your vision is obscured. Imagine trying to drive at night with no headlights. You might be able to get by with the moonlight, but the second the moon goes behind the clouds, you won't be able to see in front of you. Sometimes, we can feel like we are moving around without being able to see what's in front of us. Whether it's from a lack of vision, a lack of control, or simply the fear of what's ahead of us, we often walk through life with our eyes closed. We are hoping that it will be okay, but we have no idea. Fear and worry about what's ahead are probably what's on your mind.

Thankfully, God knew that we would end up in the dark, so he left us with a light. Psalm 119:105 says your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. In life, when we lack vision, God does not! He knows what's ahead, and the beautiful thing about God is that he doesn't leave us in the dark. He wants to show us the way. Through His word and through the Holy Spirit, God wants to show us the bright path ahead of us. He knows that there will be mountains and valleys on this path, but He also knows that through His strength, you will conquer the valleys and rejoice in the mountains.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER:

What dark paths in your life do you need to let God shine His light into? How are you inviting the Word and the Holy Spirit into your life? Take some time to think about these questions and journal out your answers.
