LOVE ISLAND - WEEK THREE - DAY FOUR

Hello and welcome to your Daily Devos following our Love Island messages at 29:11! Take some time today to read through the scriptures provided, meditate on the lessons learned that are applicable for all of us from this week and journal your prayers. Have an amazing week 29:11 Church!

THEME SCRIPTURE:

21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Ephesians 5:21-33 NIV

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

  • 1 Timothy 5:8

REFLECTION:

They say the husband is the provider, and while this is true in some ways, it's probably not in the way you might think. All provision in our lives ultimately comes from God, meaning many things are beyond our control as men. We can strive for the best-paying job, the biggest house, or the most well-stocked kitchen, but at the end of the day, it is God who provides these things. For the husband, true provision lies in providing spiritually. What does this mean? It means guiding his wife and children towards Christ. The husband is to lead his home in faith and pastor his family with biblical truth and wisdom. It is through this spiritual guidance that he truly provides for his family.

The first step in succeeding in this role is for a husband to provide spiritually for himself, by leading himself to the Word and to prayer. Through these spiritual practices, the Lord will pour into him so that he may pour out into his family. The second step is honesty. A husband must first be honest with himself, introspectively examining his life and asking God what things must be removed. Is there pride, selfishness, or lust that he needs to give up? He must be honest and relinquish those things. Next, he must be honest about his family. The husband is called to correct his wife in gentleness and love. As husbands who deeply love our wives, we can often fear correcting them, not wanting to offend or upset them. However, we must remember that this can be more harmful than helpful. Just as God's guiding hand moves us to greater things, a husband's gentle guidance can lead his wife to greater things.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER:

How do you provide spiritually for others? Take some time to consider your life and how it points others towards Jesus. Men, think about how you can best lead your wife or future wife closer to Christ. Women, consider how you can allow your husband or future husband to lead you in the faith.
