THEME SCRIPTURE:

Parable of the Mustard Seed

31 Here is another illustration Jesus used: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.”

33 Jesus also used this illustration: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.”

- Matthew 13:31-33 NLT

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

20 “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.”

Matthew 17:20 NLT

REFLECTION:

In Matthew 17 we see Jesus bring up the mustard seed again for a second time. This time it was because the disciples were trying to figure out why they couldn’t do what they had done before. A small amount of faith, as small as a mustard seed, can accomplish great things if that small amount of faith is placed in the great and mighty God. Sometimes the seas of life are just fine, and the very next day, there’s an undertow, trying to drag us under. I get it! Life isn’t always easy, but let me remind you that little faith can accomplish great things; but great faith can accomplish even greater things. What matters most when it comes to our faith is WHO our faith is in rather than what we are believing for this is why Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”

— REAL LIFE —

Faith is — Trusting that God can make something out of your past addictions.

Faith is — Believing you can be the First One to find Jesus in your family and that it’s not just a fad.

Faith is — telling God about your anxiety —trusting HIM to walk into your worries.

Faith is — Trusting God to provide -that He’ll make ends meet when you step out and tithe even when times are tough.

Faith is — Seeing your cancer healed when someone prays for you when you walk into church for the first time.

Faith is — Believing that your kids will find Jesus!

Faith is — Praying that your husband will walk into church and find Jesus… and lead your family with Faith Filled eyes.

Our Faith is found in the KINGDOM of GOD and if your faith is even as small as a mustard seed, nothing is impossible!

THOUGHTS TO PONDER:

Reflecting on this week of devos from the parables of the Mustard Seed and the yeast we have to ask ourselves, are the seeds I’m planting today going to grow into the things that God wants and has for my life in the future? What is one circumstance in your life right now that you seem to plant only seeds of doubt, fear, or stress? Why? What is a circumstance in your life that you have seen faith as small as a mustard seed move a mountain? What is one practical step you can take in order to have mountain moving faith again despite any circumstances, fear, doubt, or stress?

The work God wants to do in you and through your life — isn’t far off and distant, it’s not just some idealistic thing, God wants to do a miracle in your midst. Take time to pray and ask God to step into your circumstances as you face the mountains of life that stand in your way.

“The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.”

Psalm 97:5 NLT
