Ephesians 4:2-3 “Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Try always to be led along together by the Holy Spirit and so be at peace with one another.”

The Big Idea: Allow the Word of God to transform your marriage daily.

If you want marriage advice, the Bible is the first place to go. There are some specific verses that deal with marriage and many more deal with every day relationships. Can you think of a better way to develop godly character than practicing it at home? In Ephesians 4, we are encouraged to be patient with each other and make allowances for each other’s faults. That’s easier said than done. Verse 3 gives us the answer to walk it out: “Try always to be led along together by the Holy Spirit.” Being led by the Holy Spirit requires time reading the Bible, praying, and submission to his leading. Carving out time daily to spend with God will give your marriage a spiritual edge that others will certainly notice. Our relationships may be the only example of Christ our neighbors, coworkers, family and friends observe. They may even ask for the secrets to your happy marriage.

The Action Step:

Take time today to read the Bible and pray together. If you don’t know what read, maybe read 1 Corinthians 13 or Psalm 23 out loud together. Then pray together, even if it feels awkward, asking the Holy Spirit to guide you as a couple. As you read, think about your marriage and how you can apply the scriptures to your relationship.
