TODAY’S PASSAGE:
When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

REFLECTION:
We live in a world that loves to make everything public. From Instagram to Tik Tok…did it even happen if we didn’t post it on social media? I think Jesus knew we would struggle especially in today’s society with giving in private. When we give publicly, there's a risk that our motives become tainted. We may be tempted to give for the wrong reasons, such as seeking attention or validation. Private giving, on the other hand, is more likely to be driven by genuine compassion and a desire to help others. Jesus teaches us that our Father sees our acts of charity, even when no one else sees them. Private giving is a way to honor God in secret, knowing that our efforts are not in vain.
THOUGHTS TO PONDER:
As you take time to journal today, think about your motives when it comes to giving. Is it something you do privately or are you tempted to make it public? Challenge yourself to do one generous act of kindness with no one knowing who it was this week.
