GROW UP - WEEK Four - Day Five
Friday - Follow the Leader
Hello and welcome to your Daily Devos, following our Grow Up series at 29:11!
Take some time today to read through the provided scriptures, meditate on the lessons we’ve learned this week, and journal your prayers. Have an amazing week, 29:11 Church!
THEME SCRIPTURE:
Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
- Romans 13:1-2
TODAY’S PASSAGE:
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice
And to heed than the fat of rams
For rebellion is as witchcraft
And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry
- 1 Samuel 15:22-23
REFLECTION:
Pastor Zion opened the message on Sunday with today’s passage. Rebellion and lack on honor don’t seem like a big deal, until you read today’s passage. These verses compare rebellion to witchcraft. That’s no small thing as a believer. A little disagreement here, a little mistrust there towards your leader, a little bit of manipulating them to get your way… and you’ve started to reflect the art of witchcraft rather than the heart of trusting God. Don’t let the devil deceive you, God has placed EVERY LEADER in their position of leadership. To dishonor or rebel against them is as if you are saying God, I don’t trust You to put the right people into leadership over me. Remember that the Bible teaches us to pray for our leaders? By no means does this mean that you blindly follow a leader into disobeying God’s commands, but it does mean, you invite God into your ability to follow and trust the leaders that he’s placed in your life.
THOUGHTS TO PONDER:
Even Balaam who we read about yesterday had early intentions of serving God, but eventually, bit by bit, he wandered from God’s ways and found himself in a place of being hired out to curse God’s people. Are there areas of your life where you’ve let rebellion towards God or a leader start to creep in? What steps do you need to take to stop walking down that path and instead honor God with a heart of obedience and trust. Is there a leader in your life that you need to start honoring, praying for or following better?
