PROPHETS - JOEL - DAY TWO
Hello and welcome to our weekly devos following our Prophets series! These devo’s are Monday-Friday and pair with this past week’s message. Be sure to journal your thoughts, vocalize your prayers, and find God in all moments of your life this week.
THEME SCRIPTURE:
Joel 2:28
And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
TODAY’S PASSAGE:
2 Corinthians 7:10
For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.
REFLECTION:
It might be strange to think that God wants us to experience sorrow. Our tendency is to avoid pain at all costs, but what if you could feel no pain when you got hurt? That would be bad because you would probably do nothing to heal the wound and now you’re left even more pain. It also doesn’t feel good when someone gives you an empty apology, knowing they didn’t really mean it. Yet how often have we done that with God? It’s easier to slap a band-aid on our sin than to experience grief over it, but God doesn’t want an apology, he wants a posture of brokenness.
THOUGHTS TO PONDER:
The scripture says there is no regret for Godly sorrow. In fact, there is a promise that you receive salvation! Where have you given God an empty apology instead of a broken heart? What can you do as a response to this? As you take time to pray on this today, remember, God is not trying to hurt you, he desires to heal you. Sometimes that means experiencing the pain first, but remember the promise.
