PROPHETS - JOEL - DAY FOUR

Hello and welcome to our weekly devos following our Prophets series! These devo’s are Monday-Friday and pair with this past week’s message. Be sure to journal your thoughts, vocalize your prayers, and find God in all moments of your life this week.

THEME SCRIPTURE:

Joel 2:28

And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

James 5:16

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

REFLECTION:

Now that we’ve covered confession to God, there is a part two; confession to others. There is something so beautiful about being fully known and loved no matter what. Confessing to others sounds scary! Why would we want people to openly know about all of our dirty laundry? We work so hard to cover up our messes, yet that is exactly what keeps us chained up. God made community so that we wouldn’t be alone, so we could experience love and connection, and for accountability for our repentance. Confessing to someone you trust preserves your repentant heart.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER:

After you’ve made your confession to God, consider who in your life you could also tell. Speaking it out loud to others, although scary, is incredibly freeing. Those that you can share with can be there to fight with you in prayer, help to cover blindspots, and keep you accountable to continue to stay free from that sin. Also, is there anyone in your life that you need to apologize to and make things right? Take some time to ask God who you can confide in and if there is anyone you need to make things right with.
