THEME SCRIPTURE:
Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl
44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.
45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. 46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!"
- Matthew 13:44-46
TODAY’S PASSAGE:
8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
- Ephesians 2:8-10
REFLECTION:
Have you ever been given an extravagant gift? Maybe it was a larger amount of money, a car that was passed down to you, or something you could never afford on your own? When it’s a free gift there’s nothing you can do to earn it. It was given to you. That’s what God’s grace is. We could never do enough good deeds, pray long enough or become the biggest Bible scholar in the world to earn God’s grace. It’s a FREE gift, which none of us deserve. His grace covers all our sin, pain and every lie the enemy tries to speak over us. We are God’s masterpiece and our salvation is only because of God’s beautiful gift of grace in our lives.
THOUGHTS TO PONDER:
Do you try to earn God’s grace by your good works? How can you receive God’s grace as a free gift? Journal and take time to thank the Lord for His grace in your life.
