GROW UP - WEEK Four - Day THREE

Wednesday - Celebrate Your Leaders

Hello and welcome to your Daily Devos, following our Grow Up series at 29:11!

Take some time today to read through the provided scriptures, meditate on the lessons we’ve learned this week, and journal your prayers. Have an amazing week, 29:11 Church!

THEME SCRIPTURE:

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

- Romans 13:1-2

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.

- 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13

BONUS!

Am I expressing merely a human opinion, or does the law say the same thing? For the law of Moses says, “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.”[a] Was God thinking only about oxen when he said this? Wasn’t he actually speaking to us? Yes, it was written for us, so that the one who plows and the one who threshes the grain might both expect a share of the harvest.

- 1 Corinthians 9:8-10

REFLECTION:

What’s your natural reaction to someone who warns or scolds you? Our normal reaction is to try to back away from them or look for someone else who might try to just ‘focus on the positives’. A healthy leader actually cares about the people they lead enough to call greatness out of them. Sometimes it’s hard to hear the things we need to hear. When I was a kid, I loved cookies so much that I’d grab one out of the cookie jar at my grandmas everytime someone wasn’t looking. My parents loved me enough to tell me I couldn’t have more cookies when they caught me. They weren’t trying to spoil my fun, they were trying to protect me from an impending stomachache. The Bible encourages us to ‘acknowledge those who work hard among you’. The NRSV translation says it like this, ‘respect those who labour among you.’ God has placed great leaders in our lives and at 2911 Church. It’s easy to forget how fortunate we are to have great leaders in our lives– it’s their position, their job after all to lead that way right? The Bible encourages us to acknowledge them, to celebrate them and be grateful for the role they play in our lives.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER:

What does it look like for you to ‘acknowledge’ the leaders that God has placed in your life? Move today’s response off of a journal page and take action. Take a minute to send an encouraging text, write a good old-fashioned card, or maybe even grab a gift to bless them with.
