GROW UP - WEEK Four - Day TWO

TUESDAY - Pray for Your Leaders

Hello and welcome to your Daily Devos, following our Grow Up series at 29:11!

Take some time today to read through the provided scriptures, meditate on the lessons we’ve learned this week, and journal your prayers. Have an amazing week, 29:11 Church!

THEME SCRIPTURE:

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

- Romans 13:1-2

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

REFLECTION:

In 1 Timothy, Paul is writing to mentor Timothy, the church of his day and also the Church of today on what a healthy church community and even leadership looks like. In today’s passage, Paul said I ‘urge you’ to pray. He didn’t just urge them to pray for the people that they feel close to, Paul said to pray for ALL PEOPLE. While it might be easy to think that he was telling them to just pray for all people around them or that are on their same level, he took it a step further and said to ‘Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority…’ When I read this, I’m reminded that part of my spiritual walk is to pray for leaders and authority -both church leaders and political leaders. If we as the church spent even just a fraction of the time praying instead of talking about our political leaders what could that do for the kingdom?

THOUGHTS TO PONDER:

If God has placed every authority in their positions that they hold, how significant could our prayers be for them? List out leaders in your workplace, your family, and even political leaders that you could pray for. If you find yourself wanting to complain about them, maybe pray a little longer for them instead. What could happen if the leader that you think is furthest from God, started to let God use them to do His work?
