FATHER’S DAY - DAY THREE
Hello and welcome to your Daily Devos following our Father’s Day message at 29:11! Take some time today to read through the scriptures provided, meditate on the lessons learned that are applicable for all of us from this week and journal your prayers. Have an amazing week, thank you to all the mighty men of 29:11 Church!
THEME SCRIPTURE:
“We will not hide them from their children, But [we will] tell to the generation to come the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, And [tell of] His great might and power and the wonderful works that He has done.”
Psalms 78:4 AMP
TODAY’S PASSAGE:
“How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and all the prophets. By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. Women received their loved ones back again from death. But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection. Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons. Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half, and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated. They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground. All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised.”
Hebrews 11:32-39 NLT
REFLECTION:
There’s nothing about the word “sacrifice” that sounds attractive or appealing. Whether it’s sharing the last piece of our favorite food dish, going out of your way to do something that somebody else should take care of or eating at home to save your budget, there’s really not much that is inspiring when it comes to sacrifice and what it entails. As much as we can all look at the idea of sacrifice and quickly highlight the disdain that is paired to it, we can all agree that everything that’s truly worth it in life and faith requires sacrifice.
Sacrifice is far from pretty but it’s one of the necessary things that needs to be put into the soil of faith if we want to see the spiritual fruit God has planted in our lives to grow. In order for us to build a legacy that emulates Christ, sacrifice should be something that is always on our mind and something we are willing to do to show a better version of Jesus to the people around us. If we can’t find the strength to do it, may we always be reminded of our Jesus and the sacrifice He carried first so we can even choose to do the same. What is God stirring in your heart to sacrifice so you can look more like Him?
THOUGHTS TO PONDER:
Take some time to journal today and write down the things God is asking you to sacrifice so you can better live a life that breeds legacy. Pray and ask God to take those things from you so you can better sacrifice and be more like Jesus!
