PARABLES - WEEK TWO - DAY FOUR

Hello and welcome to your Daily Devos following our Prophet messages at 29:11! Take some time today to read through the scriptures provided, meditate on the lessons learned that are applicable for all of us from this week and journal your prayers. Have an amazing week 29:11 Church!

THEME SCRIPTURE:

18 “Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer planting seeds: 19 The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts. 20 The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. 21 But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. 22 The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. 23 The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”

- Matthew 13:18-23 NLT

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:7 NLT

REFLECTION:

This brings to mind the story of the three little pigs. Two of the pigs built their house with unstable material, sticks and straw, while the third one builds his house with brick. When the wolf comes to blow their houses down, only the one made of brick was left standing. You see, there was no way that the stick and straw had a chance when the “wind” came, they were too flimsy and had nothing to grasp onto. But the brick stood strong because it had a sturdy foundation and was stuck together.

When our roots extend only just below the surface, there isn’t much soil for them to grab onto. What happens when a storm comes? Our roots may be easily ripped out. But did you know that the healthiest trees grow roots so deep and so wide that they actually have a whole underground network of roots that connect to other trees! Now those trees aren’t going anywhere.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER:

Jesus is always calling us deeper into him, there is an infinite network of connection, life, and substance to hold onto when we let ourselves go that far. It is a process though, just like trees, we don’t instantly grow overnight. It takes a day by day relationship with God to let those roots grow more than just below the surface. What may be holding you back from going deeper with God? If you’re willing to give God your heart, He will take you farther and deeper in your faith than you could ever imagine. You will overflow with thankfulness!
